Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, RI is one of my favorite locations to photograph high school seniors. Well, to do any gene of portraits actually! There are so many amazing locations and tons more nooks and crannies that I still need to explore. I love having a property that has so many different choices; from gardens, the mansion itself, the expansive lawn and the stunning view of Narragansett Bay. So many choices for the perfect senior photo session!
When Anthony booked his Senior session with me and saw photos of how cool Blithewold Mansion was, he knew that’s where he wanted to go as well!
Picking a location is the first step in planning out your portrait sessions. We then choose the best time of day. We started Anthony’s senior session at a time of day that had that golden hour goodness in the garden. We made our way around the property and the dusk light turned this just really awesome blue by the end of our photo session. We wanted to incorporate that feel so I pulled out an off-camera flash to get him those cooler colors with a bit of drama.
My favorite part of working with Anthony was by the end of his session I could tell he was having fun. That’s what I want! For every person to leave their sessions having had a great experience!
Entering into the dusk overlooking Narragansett Bay created a dramatic backdrop that called for some off-camera flash photos. How cool are these clouds and the blue sky that we were able to capture!? Without the use of off-camera flash, you wouldn't be able to create these images. I love to add in a couple of dramatically lit photos, especially for the high school Senior guys. It just looks really cool and like something that can't be created with the average camera phone.
