I first met Alex when we bought our dog Lucy from Pup's Unlimited in Attleboro, the best little dog grooming salon that is owned and operated by her family. She had been telling me when I'd bring my girl in that she wanted images of her with her horse Hemi. We were both getting excited for warmer weather to go out to do the session. So imagine the heartache when Alex was called last week that Hemi had eye cancer!? His eye was healthy and then the next day it just wasn't. Cancer is awful like that.
After posting on Facebook she just found out the horrible news that in 4 days he would have his eye removed and if the cancer had spread, we would lose him. Immediately and without hesitation I messaged her that I would love to do our session immediately. These images could have been "goodbye" or could have been, "we won, we beat cancer!" We just didn't know. But we did know no matter what, Hemi would be losing his eye in a couple of days.
You can see in the images Alex's love for Hemi. He is her baby, her best friend. I was so happy to be apart of giving her some beautiful images and memories with him. Hemi was then loaded up and sent off for surgery. We all anxiously awaited the news of how he would fare.
I can ecstatically say that these are, "We WON, we beat cancer!!" images!
He was moved back home tonight and is adapting to life with only one eye. He may only see life with one eye but that life will be full and amazing because he is so loved!
Can you tell Alex loves her boy!?
Alex and Hemi have a whole team of friends and family who were just as heartbroken to hear about his upcoming surgery. They secretly planned and coordinated the setting up of this cute backdrop with hay bales and flowers. It was such a sweet experience to see Alex's reaction to the support from her loved ones!
