How to make and rock a crown made from fresh flowers!
Family photographer Norton, MA
I had such an amazing time with these girls! Each girl had picked out their own fresh flower bouquets from the florist that fit their personality and then constructed these beautiful crowns. We met on a woodland trail in Norton, MA as the sun set on a beautiful summer day for their portraits. There was lots of laughter and giggles and oh, what a fun memory!
I really enjoy photographing teens and high-school seniors. At first, they are shy but soon enough were are having a great time. I show them the back of the camera, how beautiful or handsome they look and they begin to trust me. We get genuine smiles and catch that spark in their eye with relaxed poses.
I can feel Spring in the air here in Massachusetts and I can't wait for all the beautiful trees to have their leaves again to get back out to photograph more of these great portrait locations!
I will explain how to easily make your own fresh-flower crown below! Then contact me to book a photo session with them!
These crowns are actually quite simple to make! The trick is to not handle or crunch the flowers and then use them right away before they wilt. After about an hour of our session they were going limp, so after constructing them try to not handle and store them in the fridge for as long as possible.
You will need:
- Fresh flower bouquet. Grabbing a bouquet of fresh greens to fill in around the crown really helps, so also look for some green leafy bunches or even baby's breath.
- Wire cutters and sharp scissors
- Green thick floral gauge wire from craft store (pictured below)
- Green floral tape (pictured below)
That's it!
Step 1) Measure the wire around your head, leaving enough wire to twist the ends together and cut.
Once you've created a smooth circle, you're ready to add the flowers.
Step 2) Leaving a few inches of stem on each flower, cut off the longer stem.
Step 3) Bunch a couple flowers together and wrap the stems with the floral tape. Do this until you have all the flowers in little boutonnière type bunches.
Step 4) Now take these bunches and tape them to the wire, hiding the stems as much as possible.
Voilà!
