Newborn Portrait Sessions:
- When you arrive in the studio it will be warmed to about 80 degrees, so you will want to plan ahead. Some clients like to wear to the studio what they'll be photographed in as a family and then once those images are taken, change into a more comfortable outfit. Something with layers if you get too hot you can remove or add as needed. If Mama is nursing, a top to feel comfortable in.
- If you choose to have baby naked for some of the family photos, just plan on baby having some accidents so a change of clothes is always recommended!
- As far as what you and your family should wear for your photo, here are a few tips:
Avoid loud colors and patterns. Solid colored shirts work best to not distract from the baby. Make sure there are no logos or wording on the clothing as well.
Avoid a zipper or buttons where baby will be resting their head on Mama or Daddy's chest.
I like to recommend creams, whites, neutral colors, black. Not necessarily everyone wearing the exact same thing but so they compliment each other.
Undergarments for the Mama's: take care to choose undergarments that don't cause bulging. Avoid shirts that show bra straps and distracting low cut tops.
- You do not need to bring any special clothing for baby. I provide wraps and blankets plus if you choose to do naked-baby photos they'll show off their own cuteness. If there is a special outfit, just coordinate with me beforehand so I can see the color and style as well as to advise if it will photograph nicely or not.
Maternity Portrait Sessions:
- I have a small collection of maternity gowns available for your use in the studio. Check out the studio maternity wardrobe page. However, you do not have to wear a gown. Wear what makes you feel beautiful!
- Choose undergarments that smooth any lumps and bumps since most of the gowns are fairly fitted. Seamless underwear, a strapless bra and if you're feeling up to it, some shape-wear will help the gowns fit nicely. Choose undergarments that are skin colored as well.
- If you are not wearing a gown, choose clothing that does not have loud patterns, words or large logos on them. Make sure anyone else that will be in the photo with you coordinates their outfits as well in style, look and feel. If you need any help coordinating everyone's clothes, please send me a text and I will help you!
- You will be able to see finger and toenails, so take the extra time to make sure they look nice. A light shade of non-distracting polish is pretty.
- Please make sure clothing is free of stains and wrinkles. Running an iron quickly over the wrinkles will make a big difference in your images!
Senior Sessions:
- Feel free to bring a change of up to 3 outfits. Just keep in mind outfit changes need to be done quickly and if you choose an on-location session a place to change will be limited.
- Coordinate your outfit colors to the environment where your session will be located. Soft colors look great on girls: creams, whites, neutrals. Or colors that compliment eyes, hair and skin tone. Clean jeans look good on boys paired with a solid colored shirt or collard shirt.
- Avoid loud patterns, clothing with writing on them or large logos.
- Do the bend-over and reach-up test in front of a mirror: does anything fall out when you bend over? Anything hang out the bottom when reaching up? Are bra straps visible? Choose undergarments that flatter the material of the outfit and not cause lines or bulges.
- You will be able to see shoes, so take that into consideration. Make sure shoes and socks are clean. If doing a session where shoes will be removed, have clean and trimmed toe nails.
- Nails and hands will also be visible so clean hands/fingernails. For women, nicely polished nails with a light soft color will photograph nicely.
- You will be able to see phones and key's in pockets so I will ask you to empty those.
- Please iron clothing before your session.
- We want to make Senior Sessions as unique to the graduate as possible! Together we will choose the location, plan if there are any activities or props that would like to be incorporated, wear what makes you feel awesome and confident! If you a cap and gown, bring it! If you want to do some photos in your prom attire, awesome!
Cake-Smash Sessions:
- Together we will plan out the theme and look of your session. We will plan which outfit will compliment the set and the cake. The actual outfit purchase and any headbands or hair accessories is provided by you. I will have you text me some different options to make sure they photograph nicely.
- We will be starting the session with photos of the child without the cake first. If you have different outfits for this segment and then an outfit for the actual smash, that is fine. You do not have to have separate outfits however.
- If you add on a tub-splash, bring a towel.
- Remember to bring a clean outfit to wear home! Sometimes, a parent gets some cake on them as well if they're helping baby at the cake so plan on that possibility too!
